MegaRamp Announces Competing Athletes For Second Stop In The MegaRamp Championship Series

Top skateboarding and BMX stars converge on the Sambadromo in Sao Paulo, Brasil between July 1-3 for the NESCAU MegaRampa, the next major MegaRamp contest of 2011.

Los Angeles, CA (June 30, 2011)—following on from the success of the MegaRamp Open at Woodward West on June 9, the MegaRamp Championship Series heads to Sao Paulo for the Nescau MegaRampa contest. This exciting event will feature the world’s best skateboard and BMX athletes battling it out live in front of 10,000 screaming action sports fans at the world famous Sambadromo. The contests will also be shown live on both Globo TV and Sport TV.

SKATE: Athletes confirmed to attend: Current reigning (2007–2010) MegaRamp Skateboard World Champion Bob Burnquist (BRA); X Games double gold medalist Jake Brown (AUS); Adam Taylor (USA) (coming in strong after his silver at MegaRamp Open) and X Games medalists Elliot Sloan (USA); Rob Lorifice (USA) and Lincoln Ueda (BRA).

Bob Burnquist is going for his third straight win in Brazil.

Watch out for the young MegaRamp phenom, Mitchie Brusco (USA, 14 years old and fan favorite of the recent MegaRamp ASA Triples event Air in The Square). Also competing from Brazil – Ronnie Gomes, Edgard “Vovo” Perera, Martin Andre and Marcelo Bastos.

BMX: Following on from the amazing MegaRamp Open BMX contest at Woodward West three athletes won places to come to Brasil. Two tricks never before done on a MegaRamp structure went down at Woodward. The Double Back Flip, and the Back Flip Bike Flip. Not to mention the highest Double Tailwhip by Morgan Wade ever done on the Mega Quarter. Expectations are high for the battle in Brazil to be one of the best BMX contest ever to have taken place on a MegaRamp structure. Kevin Robinson (3 time X Games Big Air Gold Medalist) says “We’ve only begun to scratch the surface of what tricks can be done on MegaRamp. The possibilities are endless”

Athletes confirmed to attend: Morgan Wade (USA) (winner of the MegaRamp Open), Vince Byron (Aus) (silver at MegaRamp Open and gold on mini-Megaramp at X Games China 2011), double backflipper James Foster (USA), legend and X Games medalist Steve McCann (AUS), Anthony Napolitan (USA) (X Games medalist and first ever double front flip on a BMX on MegaRamp) and Colton Satterfield (USA) (BMX winner at Air In The Square).

Only at a MegaRamp contest does the superhuman appear normal. Expect to see athletes dropping in down nine stories, jumping a 70-ft gap, landing at 45 mph, and then riding the 27-ft high quarter pipe to fly 50 feet in the air. MegaRamp athletes redefine what’s possible on a skateboard and a BMX bike.

The MegaRamp Championship Series features four contests taking place on full-sized MegaRamp structures. Athletes accumulate scores based on their results at each stop. The athlete with the highest overall scores from each of skateboarding and BMX will be crowned the overall winner of the MegaRamp Champion Series in their sport.

MegaRamp Air in the Square

On Thursday afternoon in New York City, Times Square was treated to something altogether different: the Air In The Square MegaRamp ASA Triples event. Yes, a BMX contest, running North to South along Broadway between 42nd and 43rd Street.

Placing first in the event was Salt Lake City via Idaho dirt, park and MegaRamp rider Colton Satterfield, who rode consistent throughout the day, and took home his first major win as a pro. “I did a bar barspin back barspin to tuck no-hander today, among other things. But that one made me stoked for sure,” said Satterfield. It was a new move for Satterfield, who also threw out huge 360 flips, and his helmet to the crowd once results were announced.

Satterfield, who’s been on the BMX comp tour circuit on his own dime, said the win could help him pay off some mounting travel bills.

Placing second behind Satterfield was 16-year-old rookie pro Pat Casey, who impressed the judges throughout the day with nosedive 360s, 720s and his ability to boost the ASA Triple ramps. In third, closely behind Casey, was DK Bicycles’ Brett Banasiewicz, now a vested pro on the BMX comp circuit.

Additional competitors in the head-to-head format that failed to podium included an international cast of respected BMX pros, such as Ryan Nyquist, Daniel Dhers, Rob Darden, Vince Byron, Zack Warden, Steve McCann, Mike Spinner, Austin Coleman and more.

The event, produced by MSG Action Sports in partnership with ASA Entertainment, was held in conjunction with the official launch of MSG Action Sports, a division of MSG Sports that will produce a variety of action sports and lifestyle events, properties and television programming.

The ramp, specific to the MegaRamp ASA Triples contest, consisted of a 195-foot long scaled down version of the X Games MegaRamp, with an extra jump thrown in, designed to place a greater emphasis on horizontal air than vertical air. Despite being a product of MegaRamp, the ramp was nowhere near the size of a MegaRamp, with jump gaps no longer than 15-feet each.
