“Air In The Square” Featuring the Megaramp ASA Triples

Monday, June 13th, 2011

ASA Entertainment and Madison Square Garden are hosting a high-profile action sports event in the heart of Times Square on Thursday, June 16 at 3p, called “Air in the Square” featuring the MegaRamp ASA Triples.

The MegaRamp ASA Triples is the first series of its kind, combining the best of BMX Dirt Jumping, Box Jumping and Park Course disciplines into a unique head-to-head, bracket-style competition.  The world’s top BMX and skateboard pros will showcase their versatility and innovation over a one-of-a-kind 195’ long course that features a 25’ high roll-in, two large box jumps and a massive quarter pipe.  With this huge structure planted on Broadway and 20 of the world’s best pros, it should be an amazing thing to watch.

The event is FREE to attend, so come out and watch!

BMX:
12 riders will compete head to head, getting two runs each with the winner advancing to the next round until a champion is crowned.  The format includes a “Battle Back” round, where pros that lose in the first two rounds have the chance to battle their way back into the semi-finals of the winners bracket.

The Skateboarding will consist of a session-style competition during a 30 minute jam session with 9 top pros competing for the top prize.

Woodward West and the MegaRamp Open

Yesterday Woodward West in Tehachapi, California hosted the first event of their MegaRamp Championship series. The event had a veritable who’s who of the dangerous discipline in attendance (minus the godfather of the discipline, Danny Way, who was present but not competing). In a not-so-shocking turn Bob Burnquist, the only skater with his own MegaRamp to practice on, finished first. Out of the 10 riders for BMX that hit the 50, 60, and 70ft gaps and 27ft tall quarter, only one of them had competed in the Big Air event at X Games, so it was good for a new crop of riders to get their chance to compete on the monster-sized setup.
