Burnquist celebrates MegaRamp World Championships and Harvest of the Chipotle Community Garden at his own personal Dreamland

Vista, CA – The Bob Burnquist Dreamland MegaRamp Invitational was held November 11th – 13th in Vista, California at the private residence of pro skateboarder, Bob Burnquist. Some of the best skateboarders in the world were in attendance as well as over 100 hungry guests who gathered on Sunday afternoon ramp-side at the Chipotle Community Garden for catered organic cuisine courtesy of Slow Food San Diego, Temecula Valley Slow Food, E.A.T. Marketplace and Murray Farms.

Saturday’s event schedule was thrown off due to the rain but that wasn’t a problem for Burnquist. In true Dreamland mode, Bob put on his rain gear and picked up his surfboard which he had drilled on to a skateboard and dropped into the 30 foot quarterpipe.

Sunday morning the sun was shining, the ramp had dried up and the contest was on. In keeping with the backyard feel the contest format was unique and fun – the best setting for progression. The highlight of the day was watching Burnquist bust out a jaw dropping switch 540 to indy 720. Other highlights included Edgard “Vovo” Pereira’s body varial 360 over the gap to heel flip body varial 540 on the quarterpipe and Elliot Sloan’s ollie 360 over the gap to tail grab 540. Bob ended up walking away with top honors from the weekend’s event taking first place in all four disciplines.

Bob also dominated this year’s MegaRamp Series, taking home wins at all four events. This marks Bob’s fifth career MegaRamp Championship title. Bob also holds two vert World Cup Skateboarding titles; this latest achievement makes for a total of seven career titles making him the first skateboarder to hold world titles in two disciplines in the sport.

“The Bob Burnquist Dreamland Mega Invitational was a dream come true, and not just because of all the amazing skateboarding that went down, but the people that came together to make it happen for all the right reasons. Thank you skateboarders, chefs, family, friends, neighbors and sponsors. My backyard was invaded by progressive energy!” Burnquist stated with appreciation.

The skaters judged each other in four different disciplines; gap, quarterpipe, combo run and best trick on the rail. Following the session the skaters sat down in a tribal council setting chaired by legend Christian Hosoi and discussed what tricks went down and came up with the final results. “The format was unique and it felt awesome to skate a contest with a backyard vibe. It was an overall skill event and everyone’s skating was amazing”, added Bob.

The groms were on fire and had their own amateur contest on Sunday. Tom Schaar dominated the contest by landing a backside 360 over the gap to a 900 on the quarterpipe. Jett and Jagger Eaton and Trey Wood were also on deck throwing out an arsenal of impressive tricks. The future is bright for MegaRamp skateboarding with this super crop of young rippers.

After the awards had been presented to the skaters, Burnquist had another presentation to make on behalf of the Chipotle Community Garden. Portions of the crops from the garden will be donated to local elementary schools in the area for education. Susan La Vorgna and Vail Elementary schools were two of the schools honored at the event, where they will focus on creating a farm to plate lunch for the entire student body once a semester. The afternoon consisted of Chipotle burritos along with an amazing spread of organic food and fresh juices straight from the garden. The A.S.E.C. solar powered bus was onsite throughout the day powering the iPads and iPhones for a sneak preview of Bob’s new app Bob Burnquist Dreamland The Game which will launch in January 2012.
